DANGOTE DONATES N100M TO SOKOTO FLOOD VICTIMS

The President/Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Alhaji Aliko Dangote, yesterday donated the sum of N100 million as part of his contribution towards alleviating the suffering of flood victims in Sokoto state.

Making the donation to the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko at the Government House, Sokoto, Dangote described the disaster as unfortunate, pointing out that the donation will help provide succour to the victims and prayed that Allah replenishes all that they have lost in the disaster.

Dangote congratulated the governor for doing a great job in the state as well as the urgency he displayed in handling the flood disaster.

He described the governor as the "most down to earth governor in Nigeria"given his unmatched humility and unrestricted access to his person.

Responding, the governor thanked Alhaji Dangote for the great unforgettable gesture and the respect he has for the Caliphate and the good people of Sokoto state.

"The name Dangote has for long become a household name and a story of hard work, discipline and the fear of God. This donation is unforgettable and may Allah reward you immeasurably.

"About 11 local government areas were adversely affected by the flood necessitating the urgent introduction of early recovery measures for the most vulnerable, whose livelihoods and assets have been destroyed. Amidst significant damage to croplands and the destruction of seeds, fields and livestock, concerns are mounting for the medium and longer-term food security in the affected communities and the ultimate impact on other socio-economic systems", he said.

Dangote had earlier donated relief materials worth over N120 million to assist famine victims in Niger Republic.

The donation of the items, which included 3,000 bags of sugar (50kg), 6,000 bags of flour (50kg), 3,000 bags of salt (50kg) and 30,000 cartons of Dangote noodles, was made through the Dangote Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dangote Industries Limited.

Similarly, Dangote Foundation also recently donated N50 million to the Jigawa state government to alleviate the suffering of flood victims in the state.

The donation also included 3,000 cartons of spaghetti,6,000 cartons of noodles among many others. Also in September, Dangote Foundation donated $2 million, through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), to assist survivors of flood that ravaged Pakistan.

The aid was also made through the Dangote Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dangote Industries Limited, West Africa's leading manufacturing conglomerate.

According to the United Nations World Food Programme, "the donation from Dangote Industries marks the first time WFP receives a major contribution from a company based in Africa.
